Strong, textured and served with a sweet, a Turkish coffee is a unique blend of ritual, romance and mystique. This is the perfect coffee to brew when someone drops in and you want to savour the sweetness of the time together.

Ingredients

  • Filtered water
  • Turkish coffee
  • Granulated sugar

Equipment

Recipe

  1. Measure out water for each person by pouring in one and a 1/2 cups of water per person. Make sure you’re using the coffee cups you’re serving in, not metric cups.
  2. Add a tablespoon of coffee per person to the copper coffee pot
  3. Add sugar (ideally everyone would either take with or without sugar so you don’t have to do multiple batches)
  4. Mix everything together and bring it to a simmer on a medium to high heat on the stove. It’s perfectly ok, and a good thing, to see foam at the top. Don’t leave the stove as things might boil over, and we want to avoid that as it will cause the coffee to go bitter. This step should take 3-4 minutes.
  5. Once you’ve got a healthy amount of foam, using a tablespoon, skim the foam into the cups and put the pot back on the stove for another 30 seconds.
  6. Pour coffee into individual cups and serve with something small and sweet, like Turkish delight
