The cold brew extraction provides a smooth, delicate and more nuanced flavour. If you’re someone who struggles with the bitterness of coffee, cold brew is a way to savour the more subtle flavours of coffee.

It can be made ahead in a big batch and then sipped throughout the week with milk, sugar or served straight up over big chunks of ice.

💡 If you have a french press, you can make your cold brew in there! Just half the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarse ground coffee
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • One giant jar or french press

Equipment

Mason jar

French press

Coffee grinder

Big ice cube trays

Coffee filters

Small mesh

Recipe

  1. Coarsley grind the coffee
  2. Pour the coffee into your container, then slowly pour in the water
  3. Stir gently until all the coffee is saturated
  4. Steep for 12 hours or overnight, ideally in the fridge. If you like an adrenaline shot, keep on brewing for up to 24 hours.
  5. Strain using any coffee filters you have or a cheesecloth. It’s easier if you put the filter in a mesh and then pour over your nice and strong coffee. Serve the liquid over ice or gently heat up for a warm option.

Fun fact! Plants generally love a little bit of coffee in their soil.
